Deputy Health Commissioner/Administrator
The Marietta/Belpre Health Department (MBHD) is searching for a reliable and
qualified Deputy Health Commissioner/Administrator to manage our administrative
procedures. To succeed in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of public
health and how to effectively manage a team composed of several departments with
unique goals and responsibilities.
About the Role
The Deputy Health Commissioner/Administrator operates directly under the
Board of Health and is tasked with overseeing daily operations of the MBHD by
spearheading department, program, and personnel direction. The Deputy Health
Commissioner/Administrator represents MBHD and the Board of Health (BOH) in all
local, state, and federal activities, meeting, coalitions, advisory boards, and to the media
by carrying out the directives from the BOH and the Ohio Department of health.
This is a full-time position (40 Hrs./week) weekdays 8:00am-4:30pm with
occasional weekends. Benefits include paid holidays, earned sick leave, earned

SALARY: Range is $25.00 - $35.00 per hour commensurate with experience and skills
Responsibilities
Accomplish all directives of the BOH and the Ohio Department of Health and
represent MBHD in all matters on all levels.
Acts in supervisory and administrative capacity for all supervisory staff, sections
and programs of MBHD.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of MBHD
o This includes payroll, record keeping, create board reports, monitoring the
department’s budget and preparing accurate reports, community
involvement, etc.
Collaborate with staff to prepare grant applications for program funding and
operations.
Inform the general public of matters affecting public health.
Enforce public health regulations within the Marietta/Belpre area.
Consult with the appointed Medical Director in all matters regarding human public
health.

Serve
o As Secretary at BOH meetings by keeping and maintaining. minutes and
reporting on the monthly administration of MBHD
o As Incident Commander in absence of Health Commissioner for incidents
of public health origin.
o One of the Health Department’s 24/7 response capability team on a
rotational basis.
o In matters of an Emergency – critical decisions can be made immediately.
Then addressed with the Health Commissioner/ Medical Director as soon
as possible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in public health or the equivalent degree in a related health field as
determined by the Board of Health would be a plus.
1. Demonstrated work experience that would indicate knowledge and skills
necessary to lead a public health agency will be considered in lieu of
degree.
Excellent management skills for an organization with multiple departments where
each have unique goals and responsibilities.
Requires demonstrated experience that will deliver excellent financial and
budgeting skills.
Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate multiple initiative and objectives within
projected timeframes.
Ability to effectively communicate and perform public presentations.
Ability to foster relationships with coworkers, collaborators, and the public.
